Our Process

We work in both commercial and residential settings, incorporating as much locally sourced material as possible into your designs.

For our casework we use high quality hardwood plywood to ensure that your project is extremely durable in high traffic areas and will remain fully intact and operable for its full life-time.

Our accent pieces, mouldings, casings and trim work are all milled from sustainably harvested, local materials and add a beautifully natural warmth to those finishing details.  We also offer custom CNC milling for your sign work or other unique, one-of-a-kind projects.  We work from the bottom up to ensure that your space is filled with natural warmth and beauty and the highest quality craftsmanship.

There’s a reason why Pneumaticity Salon, Spa & Boutique has been a staple member of the Thunder Bay community for decades.  Not only are they a full service salon but they also consider themselves to be an art collective as well.  Owner, Susan Bishop, strongly believes in the creativity of the individual and she offers a dedicated space for local artists to showcase their talents.

Port Arthur Woodcraft was very fortunate to be able to work with the incredibly talented team there to help them fill their space with locally harvested, movable, birch partition walls, salon specific work stations and even an up-cycled sliding barn board door.

Arts and Crafts style kitchen

This project features solid wood cabinet doors, custom built trim work and hardwood plywood casework.  It also features a custom design and build china cabinet highlighted with stained glass work done by Thunder Bay artist Damon Dowbak.

Simple and subtle painted kitchen

Featuring muted grey tones, straight lines, and bronze hardware, this fully functional, contemporary kitchen forces the beautifully rich hardwood floors into the center of attention.

Nomad by Pinetree Catering has quickly become a very popular place for all of your locally produced eats and treats.  Started in 2018 with their first location in the departure lounge at the Thunder Bay Airport, they have now expanded to a second location on Bay st. continuing with the goal of delivering the taste and flavours of Northwestern Ontario to the rest of the world.

We were very fortunate to be able to work with the creative team at Pinetree Catering to ensure that all of the millwork at Nomad on Bay maintained their stringent local first philosophy.  The space features local solid birch countertops and local birch trim throughout as well as an engaging homemade bread station accented with reclaimed barnboard cabinet doors.  All of the menu boards and signage were carved from locally harvested materials.

Tok Tok Home

Furniture to make a home.  Tok Tok Home believes that good design should be accessible and that furniture should be fairly priced.

In addition to custom millwork, Port Arthur Woodcraft also offers custom manufacturing for small scale production.  Our shop is designed to work on a micro-production model and we are able to cater our production process to meet your small scale production needs.

St. Paul Roastery

Fullscale roastery and in-house cafe located in the heart of downtown Thunder Bay, St. Paul Roastery has also been focused on sustainability and equity within all of their products.

We were very happy to be able to contribute to their sustainability and local first business model with an eye catching and naturally flowing menu board that was carved out of black ash that came from the Slate River valley area.
